Life Coach
I am a certified Life Coach who specializes in helping people with relationship issues, secondary trauma and existential depression from activism or similar trauma-related careers, and will also work with those that have more debilitating issues going on.
I decided I wanted to become a Life Coach because I love helping people and, from what others tell me, I seem to have a knack for it. The reason I didn't choose conventional therapy is because I, myself, tried going to therapists throughout the years of my life and found little success sitting in office after office. I was staunch and upfront with therapists about not wanting drugs. Most of them still recommended I get on drugs. I once had a holistic therapist tell me that he never puts his patients on drugs. After a month or two of sessions with him he told me he didn't know what was wrong with me and suggested I get on drugs. I never went back to his office because I believe there is a way to heal me, not put band-aids on my problems.
There are many stories similar to that one, about my experiences of trying to get help in this culture. With no one to turn to for psychological and emotional support, who understood me and treated me as a person rather than a dollar sign, I had to start figuring things out on my own. Since I had my young daughter to take care of, who relied on me for psychological, emotional, physical, and financial support, as a single mother, sinking wasn't a choice for me. I had to start figuring out how to heal myself.
Through my journey with healing, I have learned that I know myself better than any other person in this world. And I could accomplish anything I wanted to if I just set my mind to it. I began to see that I was getting help all around me, just not in a direct way like with therapists. I was getting help through an indirect way with synchronistic experiences and I only needed to be willing to open my eyes to it. I also realized that some of the things I experience will never go away because of the culture we live in. We live in a culture that does not promote an atmosphere of peace and calm, so it can be tough to fully achieve this on our own. However, finding support helps greatly.
While I was working on my personal development and coping mechanisms for living in a society like we do, I have also been in college learning and researching about the culture we live in and the affects it has on us as individuals. My Life Coaching provides this unique but powerful insight to each of my coaching clients. I am able to help you see that the problems you experience are much bigger than yourself and not entirely your fault and how we play into a system that involves everyone else around us. I also will help you find ways to alleviate the inevitable burn-out that comes with living in a culture like this, whether you are working a conventional job or career that is high-maintenance, or an activist, a veteran or soldier, or work in a trauma-related field like ER, 911 dispatch, fire fighting, or police work, just to name a few.
This insight doesn't alleviate any of us from responsibility, nor is it some golden ticket out of our problems, but the awareness of the greater world helps us to see a way out of the mental traps that bind us and gives us the motivation to break ourselves free so that we can show up everyday and do the things we've earnestly dedicated our lives towards.
Please understand that Life Coaching does not mean licensed professional. I am not, and cannot help you in that sense. I cannot prescribe you any medications, or sign any paperwork as your therapist, or accept your insurance. What I can do is:
I will support your every step of the way and encourage you from the day you contact me to the day you feel strong enough to take flight on your own. My goal is to help you find tools that will improve your life in such a way that you become a positive leader in your life and are striving towards your goals whether that is to have a happy marriage, or work a job where you are experiencing trauma everyday, or an activist facing the terrors going on in our world.
If you're tired of feeling like there is no help for you, please contact me. I will do everything in my power to give you resources, support, and encouragement so you can start feeling better today. Please watch the video below for a little encouragement and uplifting motivation. Some days I don't want to get out of bed either... but we gotta stand up against those things that try to hold us back. Truly, we're all in this together.
